Start with what was actually counted
Distinguish suspicious messages, complaints, confirmed incidents and reported financial losses. They describe different populations. A count from a checker depends on who used it, repeated submissions and the tool's classification rules; it is not a representative survey of Americans.
Comparisons need a consistent method
A monthly increase can reflect a campaign, publicity, changing usage or classification changes rather than a rise in crime. Check the collection dates, denominator, duplicate handling, geography and uncertainty before comparing months or states. Published totals should disclose exclusions and known limitations.
Aktoh's Scam Check messages remain browser-local. No verified national Aktoh Scam Index, state rankings or monthly submission dataset is supplied here. This article does not invent one. Consult official reports for their own reporting scope and methodology, and do not treat a checker result as proof a message is safe.
Takeaway. Define the scope, protect sensitive information and verify supported controls before relying on an automated recommendation.
